June Skinner grew up on a farm near Slidell, Texas. After graduating from The University of Texas, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in publishing. She later moved back to Texas with her daughter Reneau.
After retirement, June traveled extensively with her late husband, Nelson Stewart, including trips to Europe, Russia, Egypt, New Zealand, and Peru.
Now a widow, June volunteers at an elementary school in Denton, Texas. The kindergarten kids she reads to were the first to hear “The Coat That Went to China,” and they loved it.
June is currently working on another children’s book, “The Sock That Went to Italy.” When not writing, she is active in the local dance community, enjoying ballet, tap dance, Scottish Country Dance, and ballroom.
